The Contemporary Jewish Life Committee is committed to designing programs that focus on enriching the quality of American Jewish life. The programs enhance Jewish identity and understanding of our history and heritage. Particular attention is paid to the younger generation of American Jews and the Jewish family. Specific concerns of Jewish communal life include intermarriage, education, developing greater understanding between American Jews and Israelis and promoting Jewish unity. The ongoing education seminars taught by Ken Cohen, immediate past president of Lerhaus Judaica, serve as guides to all facets of Jewish historical experience. Past seminars have included, Judaic literacy, the History of Jerusalem, the Diversion between Judaism and Christianity, "Digging Israel: Understanding Biblical Archaeology", and the heritage of the Jewish Diaspora. The Shaken Mosaic program brings active Bay Area synagogue congregants and leaders from the different streams of Judaism together to exchange ideas on topics such as "Jewish America in 25 Years" featuring UC Davis Jewish History Professor David Biale and "Jews & Catholics: Two Faiths - Turbulent History" with Rabbi Laurence Edwards, Associate National Director for Interreligious Affairs of the AJC.
